Mathematics and Computer Science

Background information

The Master’s degree program in Mathematics and Computer Science is a research master’s program designed for the training of professionals who are knowledgeable about the methodology of mathematical research, are able to design and develop new methods of research for the current issues in science and technology. In order to ensure high quality of training, extensive training courses are offered related to achievements in various contemporary scientific areas. The study program provides for the delivery of core subjects: Technological research and development; Theory of algorithms, general topology, Formal languages and Automata; Boolean functions, Theory of probability and applications. As part of the major subjects, the following subjects are taught: Theory of groups; ordinal differential equations and applications; Elements of the theory of quasigroups; Mathematic modeling, Mathematical modeling of macroeconomic processes; Discrete hyperbolic geometry; The theory of rings and modules; Numerical methods. The students acquire knowledge and skills specific for the area they are majoring in. The subjects delivered and the research conducted within this master’s degree program are focused on training a professional able to scientific investigations in various areas by extensively applying mathematics for the modeling of processes under research.

Upon finalizing the studies, the graduate student shall acquire general skills:

  • estimate the importance of achievements of mathematics and computer science for the society;
  • be aware of and to be able to select and apply the modalities of self-training in the area of mathematics, computer science and related fields;
  • highlight the main trends of development of modern mathematics and computer science;
  • be aware of contemporary trends and to understand the development perspectives in this area;

specific skills:

  • analyze theoretical and applied scientific problems of mathematics and computer science;
  • work out well-justified conclusions;
  • apply in practice the acquired knowledge for the development of ideas, concepts and models;
  • carry out experimental activities with a view to promote and transfer the outcomes to various sectors of activity;
  • develop the self-learning skills;
  • apply the ICT.

Employment opportunities

The holder of Master’s program degree, graduate of the program “Mathematics and Computer Science” will be able to work within centers of scientific research, within higher education institutions, as well as a number of businesses in the Republic of Moldova in which there is a direct link between the research work and the production area. Also, the graduates have the opportunity to apply for the PhD programs.

Academic integrity

Professional development is focused on active learning (via analysis, synthesis and investigations), the student is placed at the center of teaching activity, justifying the interest and curiosity for the processes that occur. Alongside this, the respect for knowledge produced by others is essential, by showing the source of quotation. It is forbidden to cheat during exams, while writing papers, tests, during individual work and while drafting reports and essays. The adequate interrelation among students and academics is important. Following the rules of civic and academic conduct will ensure a high quality teaching process.
